The Streaming Revolution and Cultural Shifts
The rise of streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+ has drastically changed how audiences consume media. With on-demand viewing, traditional broadcast schedules are becoming obsolete, allowing viewers to binge-watch entire seasons of shows in one sitting. This shift has created a culture where serialized content thrives, and audience expectations lean towards more extensive, episodic storytelling (Grey Journal, 2023). As streaming platforms become dominant, the industry has also seen disruptions in movie distribution. The transition to direct-to-streaming releases is reshaping how films reach audiences, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic (NPR, 2024). This shift, however, raises concerns about the environmental impact of data consumption related to streaming (Grey Journal, 2023).
